Infranode’s portfolio company Suohki invests in social infrastructure in Finland

Infranode and Suohki expand their social infrastructure portfolio in Finland by acquiring an educational and research facility, which will be built in the capital region in Espoo. The facility will primarily serve as a high-school and the city of Espoo has leased the main part of the premises under a 20-year agreement.

With this investment, Infranode further strengthens its growing social infrastructure portfolio in the Nordics. The investment reinforces Infranode’s and Suohki’s commitment to act as trusted long-term partners in providing purpose-built facilities for the society in a responsible manner.

The asset, developed and sold by NCC Property Development, will comprise 13,750 square metres of lettable area and a separate parking facility. The city of Espoo will be the primary operator in the facility and the school is designed to serve 1,200 high school students. In addition, the facility will also accommodate specialized research and development activities. The location, Kiviruukki, is a developing district of Espoo set to accommodate approximately 10,000 new residents and 3,000 new jobs in the future. The asset will be part of Cleantech Garden campus development, an innovation hub for bio- and circular economy being an integral part of the growing area.

Sustainability has been prioritized in the project, and the facility is targeting energy performance certificate class A and BREEAM Excellent certificate. Additionally, the school and research facility has secured green financing from OP Corporate Bank.

The acquisition was consummated on March 6, and construction works are set to begin in spring 2025. The completion of the construction works is expected by mid-2027. The project marks a significant growth for Suohki, who will own and manage a total of approximately 50,000 square meters of social infrastructure after the construction completion.

”This acquisition enhances our position as a long-term partner in essential social infrastructure, such as schools, and we look forward to contributing into local educational network in Espoo. We appreciate the project’s high ESG standards and are committed to continue our growth in providing high-quality facilities meeting tailored requirements of our clients, like municipalities and wellbeing services counties” says Sampsa Apajalahti, CEO of Suohki.
