Four takeaways from the Infrastructure Investor Network Global Summit 2025

In mid-March, the Infranode team attended Infrastructure Investor’s annual global summit on infrastructure in Berlin. The summit serves as a platform for discussions and outlooks on the global infrastructure industry. Martin Ekström, Head of Asset Management at Infranode, shares our insights on global trends and their impact on the Nordic infrastructure sector.

  1. Geopolitics and new technologies are shaping the global investment agenda. While investors are following geopolitics closely, we must stay engaged with global technological advancements. Hydrogen, geothermal energy, e-fuels, wave power, battery storage, and waste heat all have potential in the global energy transition. It remains to be seen which solutions will be regarded as successful.
  2. The expansion of AI will continue to drive energy demand and, in turn, shape the energy landscape. Thedemand for AI is expected to grow as costs continue to decline. Increased usage will drive both the need for and the expansion of data centres. This development will continue to fuel energy demand, while also encouraging creative solutions to make use of excess power. Examples include co-locating data centres with district heating, as well as with power sources. For geopolitical reasons, we expect more data centres to be located in Europe. The Nordics, with abundant electricity and competitive power prices, will be well-positioned.
  3. Hyperlocal investment teams pave the way for successful investments. Hyperlocal teams, with specialised know-how and on-the-ground presence in the market, were highlighted as a key to success in the current investment climate. A local perspective has always been at the core of the Infranode model, utilising a thorough understanding of the Nordic markets, combined with a team native to the region. The model’s growing interest demonstrates its value to investors and partners.
  4. Reaching Net Zero must be combined with strengthening energy security. Ambitions to enhance energy security are increasing alongside existing commitments to Net Zero. This presents both a challenge and an opportunity to advance a long-term investment agenda. With the right strategy and focus, investments in energy infrastructure will create synergies between energy security and delivering on Net Zero, ultimately boosting economic competitiveness.
